Montezuma Dumangane joined LEAR in January 2024 as a Senior Adviser, managing research projects in policy evaluation. Between 2017 and 2023, he was an economic analyst at the Competence Center on Microeconomic Evaluation at the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, where he provided support on policy evaluation to several policy DGs. His work at the CCME included advising on data collection and evaluation design, building capacity on counterfactual impact evaluation methods, delivering analysis on impact evaluation and econometric monitoring tools and providing technical support to the Regulatory Scrutiny Board.
He has also worked as a senior economist at the Portuguese Competition Authority, using his econometrics and industrial economics expertise to bring empirical evidence to market studies, impact assessment of competition policies and anti-competitive firm behaviour. He was a lecturer in economics and statistics at Birkbeck College of the University of London, ISEG of the University of Lisbon and the Catholic University of Lisbon, where he taught econometrics, microeconomics and statistics courses.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Bristol and an MSc from the University of Lisbon. He speaks Portuguese, English fluently, and Italian at an advanced level.
