A consortium comprising Lear, Euromonitor and Verian, has been appointed by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission of Singapore (CCCS) to carry out a study on the market for supply and repair of household appliances.
The study will serve multiple purposes. A first objective is to provide an overview of the growth trends and drivers of e-waste for household appliances in Singapore, which changed significantly since the introduction of the Extended Producer Responsibility (“EPR”) scheme for electrical and electronic waste in July 2021. Furthermore, the consortium will elaborate a description of the current landscape of the market through the identification of the key stakeholders at the different levels of the supply chain. Finally, the existence of market behaviours that may give rise to potential competition, consumer protection or sustainability concerns will be tested. The evidence for the different tasks will be gathered through the use of interviews with trade experts, a consumer survey and vignette experiments.
