We are excited to announce our upcoming event, the Lear Lisbon Talk on Competition Regulation, to be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, in Lisbon, an event dedicated to recent developments in competition law, private enforcement, and economic regulation, with a particular focus on the Portuguese and European.
The event will open with a welcome address by Lear Partners Eduardo Cardadeiro, Montezuma Dumangane and João E. Gata, followed by a keynote speech by Prof. Nuno Cunha Rodrigues, President of the Portuguese Competition Authority, and will conclude with closing remarks by HE Professor Doutor Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, Minister of State and Finance of Portugal.
The discussion will focus on two dedicated panels:
The first panel, “Article 102 TFEU: Assessment and Damages Quantification”, will be introduced by Paolo Buccirossi, Director of Lear, and will focus on the identification and assessment of the multidimensional effects of abuses of dominance to effectively strengthen private enforcement through damages quantification.
The panel will feature Joaquim Vieira Peres (Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Competition Lawyers Association – CAPDC), Joaquim Caimoto Duarte (President of the Competition Commission, International Chamber of Commerce in Portugal – ICC), and Tânia Luísa Faria (Partner, Uría Menéndez and Professor, University of Lisbon). The panel will be moderated by Ricardo Santos Ferreira (Deputy-director, Jornal Económico).
The second panel, “Economic Regulation and Liberalisation”, will be introduced by João E. Gata, and will address the economic, legal, and regulatory challenges surrounding the continued liberalisation of regulated sectors in Portugal and across Europe — including energy, transport, and telecommunications — and discuss the future of “traditional” economic regulation.
For how long will the «traditional» economic regulation stand? Speakers will include Pedro Ginjeira do Nascimento (Secretary-General, Business Roundtable Portugal), Eduardo Cardadeiro (Partner, Lear), Vítor Marques (Head of Department, ERSE), and Manuel Cabugueira (Member of the Board, ANACOM). The panel will be moderated by Alda Martins (Senior Economics Journalist at TVI).
The conference will close with a networking cocktail, offering participants the opportunity to continue the discussion and connect with speakers and leading experts in the sector.
*The event will be held in Portuguese.
The event is free, but seats are limited.
