Lear Competition Note: Vertical Restraints in Electronic Commerce: an economic perspective

The aim of this LCN is to shed some light on the much debated issue of Vertical Restraints in Electronic Commerce. It presents a simplified economic assessment framework and seeks to analyse some critical issues that are often neglected.
The current European approach towards restraints on online sales is likely to limit significantly the producers’ distribution choice. We therefore put forward a different competitive assessment method based on settled economic theory, and apply it to a recent case Pierre Fabre.
