WHAT MAKES COMPETITION POLICY WORKS?

Lorenzo CIARI - Lear

Lorenzo Ciari joined Lear as economic consultant in 2006. Since then, he has advised clients on a number of cases ranging from exclusive dealing and state aid evaluation to mergers and cartels. He has also worked on two policy reports prepared by Lear for the European Commission. The first, for the Directorate General for Competition, consisted in designing a procedure for the ex-post evaluation of merger control decisions, while the second, for the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs, consisted in developing an empirical methodology for the evaluation of the effectiveness of different competition policy regimes around the world in deterring anticompetitive behaviours and fostering productivity. Lorenzo holds a MSc in Economics from Bocconi University, Milan and a MPhil in Economics from the European University Institute (Florence), where he is currently a Phd candidate. His research interests are in the field of micro-econometrics, with a particular focus on structural demand estimation, merger simulations and the study of the welfare effects of competition enhancing policies.
