International cartels database – ongoing

Lear has been appointed by the World Bank Group to build and deliver a database encompassing all anticompetitive agreements related to cartels (i.e. price fixing, bid rigging, market division, output restriction, and entry barriers) in 65 countries over the period between January 2017 and March 2022. In particular, Lear economists worked on collecting information on such cartel decisions including (but not limited to) the sector, the companies involved, the type of anticompetitive agreement, price overcharge, and total amount of fines. Besides, Lear also delivered a report including statistical and qualitative analyses of data collected apt to identify patterns across different types of government interventions and competition enforcement.
