Massimo Scuffi - Tribunale di Aosta


Dr.Massimo Scuffi is a Supreme Court Judge, President of the Court of Aosta (Italy).
He is President of IPJA - Intellectual Property Judges Association and a member of AECLJ - Competition Law European Judges Association.
On the bench since 1977 (before he was a lawyer), he has   broad experience in the area of intellectual and industrial property, unfair competition and antitrust law.
He set up as a judge in the 1st division of the Milan District Court, in the IP Court of Appeal and in the civil division of the Court of Cassation in Rome.

He dealt with several leading cases in IP area for ever 30 years and took part in the working group of the Supreme Court preparing the Italian document for the White Paper on compensation of antitrust damages.
He was legally qualified member of the Enlarged Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office (EPO) from 2000 until 2008.
He is often appointed as a teacher in refreshing courses for EU judges, experts, public officers, lawyers and took part to several training projects organized either by the EU Commission or by the Competition Authorities having as object to increase judiciary and to ameliorate the approximation of new countries to the European IP sectors.
He has been panelist in EPO Academy and WIPO seminars, lecturer in IP meetings and symposia held in Europe, China, Usa, Arabic countries.
He is coeditor of the Review “Italian IP Courts case-law report”, codirector of “database ARC” by Trento University dealing with antitrust private enforcement and author - in addition to other publications - of the following books: Antitrust procedure rules and legal protection of free competition - (coauthor) - 1998; Procedural law on patents and trademarks - 2001; The new Italian code of industrial property - (coauthor) - 2005; Procedural law on intellectual property -2009.
